Mt. Hood National Forest
This is a prototype Map Server application for the Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. Landscape value data was collected in 2007 from a random sample of regional residents in Oregon. The map serving application currently contains limited functionality but new features will be added in the future. This application allows you to display landscape value point data and landscape value polygons that contain 75 percent of the landscape value points (a type of "hotspot").
Otways Region of Victoria, Australia
This is a prototype Map Server application for the Otways Region of Victoria, Australia. The Otways Region is a diverse region with forests dominating the hinterland and beautiful scenery in the coastal areas. The region is transitioning from natural resource extraction to increased tourism development with the expansion of protected areas (national parks). Landscape value data was collected in 2005 from both regional residents and visitors. Of particular interest to this application is the ability to display development preferences in addition to landscape values, as well as "visitor" preferences. Respondents mapped areas where there should be "no development", where residential development was conditionally acceptable, and where tourism development was conditionally acceptable. The Otways coast, like most coastal areas around the world, appears as a contested landscape when development preferences are overlayed.
